Actually, was trying to get more HOT:screwy: air into the intake. Cost - well, had this filter since I own the truck, be 2 yrs April. Some duct tape, of course, what a redneck without one...

Looks like that'll be fun disassembling when it comes time to wash it out. I'd also be mindful of it getting wet during hard rains and high speeds. Duct tape rules....

An alternative could be to sell it on eBay and buy the right one? Just a crazy thought...good luck!

1. just washed. good for another 50K miles. in that time, duct tape will peel itself off anyway. yes, uncle Red Green is proud of me.
2. no, not worried about rain. it is way too high up in the air plus covered from the bottom with the stock filter box pan. same concern is totally valid for any CAI that is sold on the market, btw. honestly, water injection was used in gasoline engines for so long, that I am not concerned with some mist getting in.
3. why would I spend 120 greenbacks for something that works exactly same? I have been monitoring ambient temp and FIA temp off ECM sensors for about 10 days already, and with the STOCK BOX there's only 4-5 degrees difference. unless you have refrigerator attached to it, even fanciest factory CAI will not lower air temp below the ambient level.
Basically, factory CAIs do not give any major temp difference. neither does what I just did. less restricted air flow, yes, but not temp.
matter of fact, this truck does so much better in warm weather on mpg, that that was the reason I did what I did - to get more HOT air into the intake. Total failure so far, it is same 5 degrees difference not matter which way I have that filter turned. MPG dropped by over a mile to gall right away.
summing up - I'll just reinstall stock box weekend time. not worth it at all.

why no one asks me if there's any POWER change? I know, jcat will do it right away. so, yes, it does feel better on the gas pedal. wrrroooommm is louder and more pleasent too. except that I - hmmm, don't give a damn about this anymore for about 4 yrs already. if I can't get hot air in - it's useless to me. but yes, has some extra pep to it now.
