Ignition Lock Cylinder

Hey all,

I've decided to start a new thread in relation to my previous thread about electrical issues in my 97 PA. I've done some research and figured that my issue resolve solely with the ignition lock cylinder. How much does this part cost and can I repair something like this at home with the proper tools? I'm also unsure as to what this part actually does. Any help appreciated...
