My 4 wheel drive is on at all times. Is there a way to unplug it or something? Also there is a ticking in the glovebox, it ticks like it does when you turn the turn signals on but it does it when I dont have them on and just driving down the road. We even baught a new switch and it still does it.:runaround: Anyone know what it is?

you can disable the AWD by removing the ATC fuse which is under the hood on the drivers side.

There are 3 relays in the glovebox. Left to right you have the daytime running lamp, fuel pump and horn relays. I'm guessing there's a problem with your daytime running lights. Check them, your normal headlights and bright headlights with the engine running and see if they're all working normal.

the ticking is probably the turn signal flasher. try replacing that if you know you have a good turn signal switch.

I took the fuse out and that fixed the awd, now the ticking is in the glove box and we replaced the turn signal switch with a new one and it still does it. It is really annoying b/c its not a quiet tick it sounds like it does when I turn my blinker on. Sometimes it like trips out and sounds like static I hope it doesnt short out and cause a fire or something.

did you replace the flasher? it is behind the glovebox and makes that turn signal ticking. it probably needs to be replaced.

on the clicking noise i had same problem. you could try cleaning the electrical connection for the switch assemble itself. follow the wire harness coming down the steering column and it should take you to a box just left of the brake pedal. take harness off and clean put back to together. If it still makes that clicking noise then the turn signal control assemble should be replaced.

I had the same problem with mine. I was the flasher element behind the glove box.

Well I thought I had it fixed but it started doing it again yesterday. Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing as you like I stated in my previous post. I first replaced the flasher relay behind glove box. I was out of town at the time, so of course I had to drive the 13 hours back home listing to my flasher relay clicking the whole time. The only way to fix it is to replace the entire turn switch and wiper on/off assemble. I did that to mine and the problem went away. I was able to find a new switch on ebay for about $100.

Well I kinda figured that it had something to do with that switch assemble b/c if it was ticking and I jiggled the entire turn switch it would stop for a little while.

Thanks for the update! I guess those multifunction switch's are not real durable.

Replaced the switch today and seems to have solved the problem, I know I said that before but lets hope I really got it this time!

so does removing that AWD fuse hurt anything. like does it wear out seals or cv axles prematurely? what about OBD II, does it effect that and finally will it increase fuel econ? and performance

removing the fuse won't hurt anything. it won't affect performance or fuel economy because the 98 bravada is rear wheel drive anyway.

im sorry, i forgot to mention that i have a 96 bravada

the 96 bravada doesn't have an electronic transfer case. you'll have to remove the front driveshaft to run it in 2wd. that probably will increase the gas mileage.

I'm not sure everything will be ok running the older style viscous clutch transfer case without the front drive shaft connected. The cutaway drawings and illustrations show the gears & shafts in what looks like a planetary type arrangement. Except for the limited amount drag from the viscous clutch, taking the front driveshaft loose leaves the power transfer "open-ended".

I had the issue in a 99 Bravada. Went from the turn signal sounding like it was on, to a buzzing. It would go away on occasion and then come back. When I used the turn signal or hit the brakes, it went away. It was the Multifunction Switch. AC Delco will run you around $175+ to purchase plus installation if that is it.
