would vortec heads be a good idea?

I gotta 1970 350 bored 20 over with flattop pistons a lunatti bracketmaster cam with 480lift and camelhump heads.I was thinking of changing to vortec heads and intake to gain some horsepower.Think its worth it and can I just bolt them on and go?Any answers would be very helpful,thanx guys

You would realize a slight gain if you changed nothing BUT the heads. Your intake won't "fit", so you'll need a new one. Might as well upgrade.

Your compression ratio is now too high for 93 octane gas. Is this a race engine or a street engine? Vortec heads won't "help" that situation any, either.

well im assuming if hes driving the car right now that the compression isnt that high, i run flat tops and vortecs on my nova with 91 and its fine, mind you that i run a large cam with plenty of overlap, or should a say a small cam, under .500. just make sure you retard the timing to compensate, run a cranking compression test and get back to us with the number, my guess is right around 200psi. and a slight improvement might be and understatement, vortec heads are the best gen 1 stockers availible. camel humps are just too out of date and shouldnt be used. if your really worried about compression that much get a set of aluminum heads, theyre on the cheap side now and you can afford to run more compression because of better heat disapation.
