Hi
I'm Larry. I am interested in an 05 LeSabre with 48,000 miles. It has the 3.8(I think they all do). Should I be concerned with anything such as coolant loss at intake, etc. or any thing specific to this year?
Thanks

I am not sure if they finally fixed that problem for later years or not. Sure hope they did. This link doesn't mention it for the '01s. They rate very high.

Here is the '05 link. I got the wrong year. The 05 rates even higher than the '01.

I would say the issue was UIM issue was corrected for 2000 forward, based on the engine reliability ratings. Also, I believe I read on this Board at one point that 1999 was about the last year for the major UIM problems. Looks like the '05 would be a good one.

Previous poster is right about improvements made in 1999 to intake design. Few failures occur in later engines.
The DexCool is an orange. It should be good looking in reservoir. If not have it flushed and refilled with new DexCool every 2 years or 36000 miles. Same as any other quality antifreeze. Don't go for 100000 and 5 years.
Do same with transmission. If you don't know it's been drained and serviced, drain now. Change filter every 36000 miles. I refilled with Dexron VI trans fluid which is the latest and is a step up from Dexron III. I do it myself and used the Dexron VI from Walmart's brand SuperTech. That puts about half the fluid in as new VI.
