Amp shutting off need help.

I recently got this:
Two 12" Kicker Comps ( http://www.kicker.com/comp )
powering it is a Kenwood-KAC-8103D ( http://www.crutchfield.com/p_613KAC8103/Kenwood-KAC-8103D-Factory-refurbished.html?search=Kenwood+KAC8103D&tp=115 )
What happens is (just recently started) I can listen to music at very low volume, and when i turn it up the light on the amp turns off completely, and the amp is completely shutoff and if i turn the volume back down the light on the amp comes back on but only about half bright, when i turn it down almost all the way it will 'catch' and the light will be at full brightness.

I was thinking could this be a Ohms problem or a grounding problem? (I have it grounded to the underside of the trunk)

Anyone have any ideas?

do you have a voltmeter ? If so, try taking some readings at the amp when your buddy is turning it up

I tested it with a volt meter and when the amp was on and running fine (very low volume) it was at 13.5 volts (at the amp connections)

When I turned the volume up however, the volts went to 3v down to 1.5v

I think i may have fixed it though, the wire running from my batter to my amp has a fuse box type thing in it. Well i noticed that the wire that connected to the fuse box (from the battery) was a very skimpy. I changed it out with a thicker wire & I made the connection the best it could be.

It seems to be running fine, I guess that was the issue.

that was almost assuredly it ... it doesn't take much of a resistance drop to kill the voltage when you start pulling a lot of power.
