Hey all. I was washing my car the other day and wanted to listen to music so I left my car on (not the ignition) to listen to the music. Just the electrical components were working. I'm not too sure what I did, but from now on when I turn my car off after driving and exit the door, a dinging sound comes out of the speakers as if something still is on. The dinging continues after you open the door back up to start it up the next time. I think I may have disturbed the security features. Also, upon entering after listening to the radio when washing my car, everything reseted in the car - odometer, gas mpg, etc. What can I do to get this dinging to stop?
Thanks!

Just went and messed with my car again. Turns out, if you open up any of the doors except the drivers side front door, the dinging will not begin. It is only when the drivers side front door is open will the dinging begin. I disconnected my battery for a few minutes to see if this would help. Nothing happened. Definitely thinking security features now. All help is appreciated.

IIRC in 97, the security system was incorporated within the BCM and since the BCM controls most every electrical function in the interior, I would suspect the BCM took a dump. This can be verified @ the dealer using the Tech II scanner.

Whoa, kinda confused by the above few sentences. What exactly did I do wrong? I've looked over what I know and and sure that it deals with the security because the security light flashes in the dash. How do I go about fixing this small annoying problem? Can't I just reset everything?

If nothing else is wrong, could it possibly be that the pin inside the steering wheel lock is jammed, meaning that I am always being told that my keys are always in the ignition? Couldn't I cut a wire to cease this noise?
