B16a VS B20z

ok, I want to swap out my sohc zc soon, and Im in need of some advice on which motor could better suit my needs.

B20Z, or B16.

vtec vs no vtec
torque vs no torque.


I have a 90 Civic hatch its also my daily driver so reliability is an issue...
what do you guys think?

I want something quick in the quarter mile, and can stomp a few zcs and b16's in newer hatches..

Go for CRVTEC, best of both worlds. Although you want reliability, so that might not be the best choice.

B16 would be cheaper, but not as fast.

I speak from experience when I say B16s can take a BEATING.. They're very good motors for reliability.

I have 236,000 kilometers on my SiR with the original B16A under the bonnet and it's still going strong. I can't say enough about them in terms of reliability.

The b16a has torque, you just have to work at it a bit more. Anyone who says it doesn't has NFI about how power is made. Remember power is a combination of torque and RPM - torque itself is simply the way in which power is developed. The b16a simply needs to have the tits wrung out of it to develop power, as do most of the small capacity motors.

I agree. B20 is a good motor and it'll beat the b16s off the line but at top end b16 wins. I would get the b20 if i was goin turbo.

I've seen dynos of the B20 with basic bolt ons and the LS IM and they're putting out similar HP numbers to a basically stock B16A... And GOBS of torque.. I'd put a B20 with basic bolt ons for a good run against a B16A I'd think.. I've never raced a B20 Civic though, so I'm not quite sure.
