Running wires..

When I run the wires from the battery to the amp and from the head unit to the amp where exactly do I run the wires through? Should I run the power wires on the left side of the car and the head unit wires on the right side so there is no distortion?
Also, I looked at the wiring a little and went from the trunk forward and followed the wires. It looks like they go down the side of the seat and then down below under the carpet. How hard is it to run new wires through the carpet and is the carpet easy to pull up or no?

Sorry, lots of questions, just dont wanna fuck up when I am actually doing it.. :D

from what i know you should run your amp wires on the opposite side of your regular car electrical wires going to the back. i don't know on the carpet, but it's probably pretty easy to get off or at least move around so you can wedge wires in there.

Anyone else actually tried this with a P11?

I can't seem to locate any holes in my firewall to run power wire through. What did you guys do??

Is your car an auto or manual? I know some people that have autos run it through where the clutch cable would go. If not you may have to drill.

I know I couldn't find a hole in the firewall either.. I have an auto..

I will check out my car later and see what was done. Can't be too hard to do, otherwise shops would charge an arm and a leg to do it.

You check out your car yet? I seriously need to know where to put the wires through.. I cant find a single place!!

It's good practice to run the amp wires on one side and stereo wires (RCA coaxile) far away from them. You don't necessary have to go to the complete other side but somewhat spaced. This will cut down on alternator noise. I've heard of people going through the clutch cable but why dont you drill? It's not that hard and you can make sure that the wire won't get involved with any other mechanisms. If you do drill, it's a good idea to cover any gaps in the hole after you thread the wire through with silicon or some sort of weather proof insulation.

If I drill on the left side of the car, what would be the best place? I can't seem to find a good place at all..
I am running my RCAs on the right side of my car and the Power wire on the left side so no distortion ..

Anyone?

have you looked to where your speedo tach wires run through. I fount it easier to run the power wires on the side and the RCA's right down the center.

Nope, would I have to take off the whole speedometer part to expose the holes? I looked around there and saw nothing.

P.S. I have a P11

Hmm, have you thought about running it where the hood release cable goes through. since the hood release lever is on the lower left of the dash, I figure the cable would go somewhere on the left side too.

Yes I have seen that but the hood release cable goes under some part of the engine of the left side of the car that I can't access (under some big metal peice)

How bout jacking up the car so you can get it somewhere downlow. I still don't see what's wrong with just drilling a new hole. Just make sure you check both sides before you start drilling, and use a rubber grommet to fil up the rest of the hole.

ok this where you rout the power cable. where the pedal for the brake is you will see two screws that mount the pedal to the firewall of the car(inside). on the bottom screw, go to the left about 4-5 inches and cut that black rug apart (nothing crazy big here), under the black rug there should be some gray cotton like material, there should be atleast about a 1/2 inch hole in on the firewall, i saw the guy that did this for me and he told me that all he did was get a drill and simply pass it through the wall and bam!! the power cable should come out on the other side just underneath the master cylinder. I wouldnt try any where else seeing that under the hood everything is so compact.good luck

Trag, is the place your talking about where there is like a cutout in the black stuff and the cotton underneath it? I looked behind there and there's no hole ..

I have a p11 (NZ mind U) and i drilled a hole through the fire wall on the left hand side as i couldn't find anywhere as well. If you do this remember to put Grommets in the whole etc. I put all audio cables (RCA and speaker etc) on the right hand side under the carpet right up against the side. Sort of in the bottom corner underneath the sills. The Power cable (4 gage) is on the let all the way to the boot.

Hopes this helps at all.

Ya, isn't your drivers side on the right side in NZ?

Yep
but isn't everything in the engine bay set out pretty much the same. Just trying to help out.

I dont know.. seems like some things would be flipped around..

Trag,
I tried looking again and there is no hole there.
You weren't saying that I had to drill a hole were you?
Or did you mean there was a hole already there?

Thanks for the help guys..

PrimalSMX -- I did it the same way.. RCAs on right, power on left since it seems like it would be easier since the battery is on the left side of the car.

I found a place in my car to fit my wire on my passenger side under the glove and behind the console. i just put the wire in on the inside and it poped out from the engine.

I can't run it that way because my power wire isnt long enough, I can only run it on the left side

Trag

no dont drill there should be a hole in the fire wall, at least on my car there was. try to take out your rug and that cotton like stuff so you can look more.

Trag, yours must be different for some reason. I took the whole rug out and had it looked at down at the car audio place and there was no hole anywhere. I'm just gonna have someone else drill the hole so I dont mess anything up on accident.

The power wire for my system runs underneath the black cylinder behind the brake fluid resevoir. It is under two metal tubes, probably part of the a/c system, has the number 2 on it. Can't see exactly where it goes in though, bad angle.

Alright Trag,
I took my car in and they drilled a hole where the cutout was but there was no hole there in the first place.. hmm wonder why yours had a hole and not mine.

WOOHOO!
I'm over one obstacle onto the next! Got all the power wire routed along the side and connected to the battery and the amp.
