I have a 97 Geo Metro LSI 4 cylinder the timing belt jumped the gears and when I got the timing belt cover off I noticed that the tensioner spring located in the middle had broken it was all ground up what do I do? Or better yet who sells these springs? can just any short spring to hold the timing belt tight work? By the way this Geo sat up for 4 years and it took me about a week to get running again but its been running great for the past 2 years!

I think you get a new one with a timing belt and tensioner kit.

Junkyard would be the best place to get that spring, but you don't really need it. It just pulls the tensioner against the belt and then you tighten down the two mounting bolts. When the engine is running, the spring does nothing.

Agreed. Mine was stretched and deformed probably during a previous belt replacement. I just tossed it out so it wouldn't come off later and tear my new belt up.
