My granddaughter has a 2002 cougar that normally runs great but on extended highway driving (2 hours or so) it will stop running. Let it set for a hour and it is OK again. Can anyone help?

Does she have the 2.0 or 2.5 L engine ?
Does it have a "Check Engine" light on ?
Have her go to a AutoZone or other parts house that can pull "Memory" or "Pending" codes.
It sounds like the Crank Position sensor is going bad, but without back probing the connector for proper AC voltage reading it is hard to say.
Possibly the fuel pump could be starting to go. Without attaching a fuel pressure gage and road testing again hard to tell.
Just some things to have looked at.

It is a V6. Checked and no codes were stored. She said it just started to miss te CEL came on, along with oil and bat and it stopped. I'm going to try the crank sensor. It sounds likely and is cheap.
