LIM project - it's all back together

I pretty much finished up last night (a break down thread will be in the works when I know the van works). When I get home today I'm going to change the oil and load up the antifreeze.
Is there anything I need to check?
I only ran the van for 5 seconds but it sounded decent.
So my plan is to listen, look/smell for gas, and look for antifreeze leaks.

What other concerns should I have?

Thanks

Don't be surprised if your low coolant light comes on. Its a resistance sensor in the radiator and often gives false positives after a complete coolant change for a while.

By the way, what type of coolant did you put back in there?

I don't start them until after I change the oil. That way all the coolant and whatever else doesn't get sucked up into the oil pump and then through the engine! Those engines do not like coolant in the oil!! Make sure you keep an eye on the coolant as its burping. If the little bubbles never go away that you can count on bigger and more $$ problems. Make sure you crack the bleeder screws on the water pump bypass screws and the t-stat housing if it has them.

Thanks guys.

I wasn't going with DexCool. Not because of the "gasket issue" but I don't like the idea that it could "gum up". What would you recommend?

I put dex-cool back in. Never really had an issue with the stuff...

I agree, I replaced the Dexcool after I had the intake manifold gasket replaced with no re-occuring problems and that was 4 years ago. (2000 Silhouette)

I recommend Zerox G05. It seems to be the best all around coolant with an established long term record. About the only place to find it now is at NAPA.

I should have mine back together again by the weekend. I just put the plenium and alternator back on tonight and have to get the A/C compressor back on tomorrow and the water pipes.

I quess bleeding the coolant when you change it must be a little of a PIA? I just had mine changed at our chevy dealer and they didn't even get it right. When I got it back there was no heat until the temp. guage went way up till the theromstat opened up then there would be a little heat. Just got it back from then again and they said sorry they had to bleed the system again to get the trapped air out.

It does seem to be a PIA to get the bubbles out, but those bleeder screws are helpful. Really, the best thing is a few temp cycles as it draws in coolant from the reserve bottle during cold times.

I use the coolant wally world sells. Green or any color stuff. I've never used dex-cool again. Its just not worth the price.
