87 BMW 325i

Hey all. New here so hopefully I don't make a fool of myself, lol. So I have an 87 325i and was wondering if it is common to have a little bit of oil(?) near the throttle body and plugs? My buddy who also likes to play with cars says its from the crankcase breather but I figured I'd ask people who own BMW's. We've been doing little things here and there to play with it like putting in a coldair and an msd ignition which is when I noticed the oil(?). This is my first(and I'm loving it) and he never has, so we aren't one hundred on what might be the cause.
