Blower motor relay

I have a 1996 GA SE 4-door.

Where is the blower motor relay? The fan seems to be possessed and turns on and off randomly. Doesn't seem to be a switch problem, as jiggling the switch makes no difference.

Is this in the fuse box in the engine compartment? I got confused by the Owner's Manual because it didn't talk about relays...only fuses

If the blower is inop on engine start- then comes on when "kicked" or "bumped" or "jarred"- then you are experiencing the number one failure mode of a worn out blower motor- the brushes are no longer capable of starting the motor- unless it is "jarred" into centering the armature- it will run until it is shut -off again- and maybe start- maybe not- depending on the amount of wear. I had a neighbor lady in her Grand Prix- "kick start" (literarly) her blower motor for over a year, before she finally couldn't kick it enough and let me replace it. So most definitely you are in need for a blower motor. Seen it dozens of times- on underhood units- just dropping the hood will start them- This is my first test for a bum blower is to whap it on the side will a blunt object- if it comes on- then replace it...same thing applies to worn out fuel pumps.....

I think you're right. I turned the blower to high and waited for it to turn on last night to see if I could associate it with any bumps.

Couldn't have worked out better.

Went over a set of RR tracks and the fan started blowing like crazy. Evidently, the blower is bad.

Unfortunately, this isn't an easy fix. This is the blower that has the housing in the engine compartment that you have to cut open, then caulk and use clips. What a weird way to repair something.

Is there a how-to on this anywhere on the site? Is this really the best way to replace the blower?
