leg room

Im used to being in my friends early 90's 540, it had tons of leg room for both passenger and driver. Im looking at new 540's now and the drivers leg room is minimal. Im 6'4" and its no way comfortable, the 3 series seems better but still not enough. What year did this change? Any after market products to get a few more inches out of the seat rails? I mean thats all they needed to do was lengthen the damn seat rails and give more adjustability...
