Please help! 2002 grand am gt bogging down

I have a 2002 grand am gt that is bogging down on me between 3700 and 4000 rpms. The car runs perfectly except for when the car has been running and at running temp it bogs down between 3700 and 4000 rpms. We have tried everything. It doesn't do it if it's cold or if you gradually give it gas but as soon as you give it a normal amount of gas (to merge on the freeway or something) it loses power. As soon as you left off the gas it's fine. Like I said, other then that the thing rus like a champ. If you know what it could be i would greatly appreciate any feedback. My husband has been working on it for 2 days and starting to go insane. Thank you.:banghead:

Has he looked into the fuel pump or injectors? If the pump is starting to fail or the injectors are dirty it won't pump enough fuel for those higher RPM ranges. Another thought is that the catalytic converter is starting to get clogged up. I say the first ideas are more likely your culprit.

Thank you for your advice! It's very helpful, he was thinking the fuel pump too! It's good to get the same thought. For the last 3 months we've been using Lucas fuel treatment with evey fill up. Do you think that could have anything to do with it?

Hello. My daughter's 96 grand am did the same thing. On her's it turned out to be the inline fuel filter, $5-6$ at autozone. Check your's to see if you have the external filter. Some of the newer gm's have the filter in the tank. Hope this helps.

Check your air filter

To the OP using lucas fuel treatment IMOP would not cause your problem. I use seafoam and had no problems.

So you step on the gas pedal harder than normal and you notice that your engine speed increases (RPM revs up) but you do not feel that your car is accelerating. If this is your symptom this has to do with transmission oil pressure or sleeping clutches.

Those are kinda high rpms to be running just on the highway IMO.
How many miles on this GA GT ?

Your engine is computer managed , so if youre in P or N, it wont rev past 3000-4000 rpms.

But this does sound more like a fuel issue, filter or injector bad/clogged.
Id check the fuel pressure, should be 41-47 psi.

I used to use Lucas reg., and still do off and on, but Ive had best luck with seafoam injector cleaners. None of my FI autos have had misfires in over a year. :2cents:
