sidemarkers

My sidemarkers (below the cornering lights) do not work. They act just as a blinker. As I understand it they should be lit, and blinking will intensify it. The blinkers at the front do this, but they have a special bulb (p21w5 or something like that) with 2 "glow wires" in the bulb.

The ones in the sidemarkers are about this type:

This is a picture how it looks like:

As you can see the ground wire is cut and now attached to the chassis of the car. When I connect it to the original wire, the only difference is the blinkers do not blink at the same time but in successive order (one blinks while the other is off).

Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it ?

Nothing's wrong. They should behave exactly as you described.
The side marker lamp is indeed a one filament bulb (194NA). When your lights are on, the side marker is on as well and when you blink, it blinks alternating with the main turn signal.

No, when the lights are on the sidemarker doesn't go on...

OK, the side markers need to be hooked up this way:

- To the positive terminal of the turn signal
- To the positive terminal of the park lamp

padriver is correct.

When the exterior lamps are OFF, the turn signal lamp (underneath your high beam headlamp) and the sidemarker lamp will flash together. When the exterior lamps are ON, the turn signal will flash brighter, while at the same time, turning the sidemarkers off...as the turn signal flashes off, the sidemarker lamp comes back on (alternating with the turn signal).

By the way, the front-facing marker lamp (underneath the low-beam headlamp...in between the turn signal lamp and the sidemarker lamp) is wired to only come on with the exterior lamps and is not wired to flash at all. (one wire connected to the parking lamp wire, the other wire connected to ground) (I'm assuming we're discussing the 91-96 Park Ave's here...the 97-05 Park Ave's have the same turn signal/sidemarker setup, but don't have the separate front-facing marker lamp).
