92 Regal gauge cluster

92 Regal 3.8, 141K miles. Analog multi gauge cluster, not the digital. Issues: Fuel gauge reads higher than actual and low fuel light comes on sporadically even when fuel is full and gauge is reading full. Temp gauge ok. Oil gauge usually ok but occasionally spikes to 120 when I come to a stop. Volt gauge ok. Tach and speedometer will sometimes go from working fine to stop working/go to 0 at the same time while I am driving. This used to happen only for a few seconds, but they did not work at all when driving the car today. I flicked at the gauges through the cover, and the needles would move upwards briefly. About the fifth time I flicked at them, they started working again. Check gauges light comes on quite often even when all gauges are working and within normal parameters. Owners manual says that this indicates an electrical issue but doesn't say what to check. Any ideas what to check? Would I be better off to buy another set of gauges from the junkyard? Has anyone replaced this gauge set up, and if so, is it difficult? Also of note, antilock brake light kicks on and abs is disabled when I turn on the hazard light switch. Resets itself if you turn car off and back on.

In looking at replacment gauge clusters on ebay, it appears that you have to buy the exact year and match an id number on the cluster or the speedo and tach won't work. Is this true? Is there a way to reprogram one if the speedo and tach don't match the exact year or id number?
