2008 TB Liftglass won't open

A couple days ago and several hundred miles away I unexpectedly ended up replacing my worn out 1996 Blazer with a used 2008 TrailBlazer.

Now that I'm 700 miles from the dealer I've found a problem with the liftglass. The release button can't be pushed and is also deformed. The only other problem is a bent radio antenna and one tiny scratch in the door. The rest is like new.

Pictures of the deformed button can be found at

and

It looks like the only thing preventing it from being pushed is the deformation. How difficult is it to repair? Is it possible I might be able to re-squeeze it into a workable shape?

Thanks, Ed

I kinda figured that. The last latch I replaced was on my 86 Blazer. This one won't be that easy.

I s'pose it wouldn't hurt to try and get it done under warranty. Taking it back to the dealer I purchased it from won't be possible until September.

Any idea what would cause that type of damage? I could swear I've seen something similar before but I can't remember if it was on a car, a major appliance or something else.

I think somebody didn't like the previous owner or the Chevy dealer I bought it from. It was apparently previously a fleet/rental vehicle.

I could bring it back for repair but the dealer is 700 miles away. I don't know if a local dealer will cover it under warranty as it appears more like vandalism than a defect.
