2002 Blazer transmission slipping

2002 Blazer 2WD 4dr
138K miles, tranny flushed at 120K miles. Problem started before the flush.
No mods

After decellerating into say a turn the tranny slips upon applying power for about 1-2 seconds. Also, occassionally the same slippage starting from a dead stop. No shifting problems, no slippage at speed, no noises.

What are the likely causes/fixes?

Thanks,

George

Have you checked fluid level engine running hot in park?
How is fluid condition?
Any codes or check engine lights?
Flushing a high mileage transmission with problems helps finish killing them.:lol2:

What kind of flush and transmission fluid and dope was used with flush?
Was the filter changed or just a flush.

Your problem could be engine running or transmission.

Needs to be put on a transmission/engine capable scanner and checked out good.
Any codes transmission or engine post back code no.
Watch the transmission shift seconds and shift delay seconds and slippage in any gear data.
Post back what the scanner says about it.

I will do as you suggest and report back.

Interesting comment:

Why is that?

To Flush or not To Flush ?
Just like Kenney Rodgers said you have got to know when to fold and when to hold.
If the fluid has high mileage 100K or over or is real dirty you had better hold.
On a trans that has had good regular service at 50K or sooner a flush is good.
But be ware of jiffie/quick/wallmart /fast lubes that offer power and fast flushes.
They have abused and over rated the trans flush.
They have a habit of using one fit all fluid out of the same barrel that fits all.
They just throw in a bottle of additive to make it fit all. Or worse they pitch in a bottle of cleaner or dope in it that can do more harm than good. And will tell you the filter does not need changing with a flush.
Just remember that all new fluid makes a high detergent cleaner that will break loose all varnish and dirt and grit in the trans and drop it in valve body and solenoids.
Always change the filter and go easy on or use no dope and cleaner.
Adjust/check the bands and linkage on the trans that have bands and adjustments.
Always use the trans fluid the trans/manf calls for. And be aware that some manf have changed the type of fluid specs since the trans was manf.
Some fords have changed the specs and a lot of cry/dodge have gone to the newer type of fluid on their trans service.
Also some fords have tsb’s and require a total complete trans flush to cure trans shifting problems. Some as low as 30K
If a person does not have a flush machine a old 5 gallon bucket and a couple of rubber hoses to connect to the cooler lines and with the other end in the bucket will make a good flush machine. Just put the hoses in the bucket and start the engine and start pouring fluid into the trans until the fluid running into the bucket gets good and clean.
It usually takes 16-20 qts. To get a good flush.
Flush or No flush always service the trans filter and trans on a good regular basic.
People that keep the serviced have a lot less trans problems.

If you do replace your fluid and your bands still slip it might help adding lucas additive, It's super think and when mixes with your tranny fluid and it gives more bite. This will extend a tranny going bad.

If the transmission is in good shape Lucas or additive extra bites does more harm than good.

But the lucas may help with one on its last leg live a while longer.

...And there is only one band in a 4L60E.

Random thoughts -

If the scanner doesn't produce any trouble codes, perform a line pressure check. Compare the actual pressure (gauge pressure) versus the scanner indicated pressure. The pressure sensor array in the trans is a good place for particles to accumulate, causing errors.

When the symptom occurs again, be prepared to manually select either D or 2 range to see if it immediately grabs. In manual ranges, the line pressure goes full and can help slipping clutches and sticking servoes to operate.

If the filter was changed, consider changing it again and closely checking the seal on the pickup tube. If appropriate, make sure a deep pan filter was installed instead of a shallow pan filter (they are different and will cause problems).

This was my point if it's currently slipping lucas may help, but I agree it shouldn't be used in a good working transmission.

Thanks for all of the input so far.

I was dissappointed to find that my Acton scanner is not transmission code capable, any suggestions?

No check engine light,

As mentioned earlier a "flush" was performed but the symptoms already existed and did not change after the flush. It has been 16K miles since then.

I have noticed that the slipping only occurs when you have let your foot off the gas, are coasting into a turn and apply throttle to come out of the turn and resume. Does this narrow things down?

Thanks,

George

You are welcome.
You need to find a good repair shop that has a good scanner.
You have not said if filter has been changed?
Has it?
Right filter?
There is several different ones.

Get the codes and have them read oy whereand when and what is slipping.
Post back any codes.

If only slipping on turning I would check filter and fliud level.
Level may be low or sucking air when turning or even a lose wire or plugin losing contact when tuemning.

Add a qt. or two of fluid and see if that helps.
Just drain it back down after test to full hot engine running.
