Hub Assembly Diagnosis

Could not find from earlier posts but I know I read it somewhere. But, a common way to diagnose a bad front hub assembly is to put hands on tire at 12 o'clock / 6 o'clock and move tire for slack back and forth ? Or hands at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and do the same ? Every once in a while the steering wheel feels like it is going to vibrate out of my hands while driving. Have to slow down then it stops. Wanted to start with the easier self diagnosis and focus on hub assemblies. Thx

Well it depends My first hub/bearing that went out was just plain noisy but didn't have jack for play in it, the second one when you checked it for play was just plain sloppy. But really It doesn't matter where u grab your tire just as long as your hands are 180 degree's apart from each other, I usually check from side to side, then up and down and that usually does the trick. Make sure you jack up the front end to make your diagnosis.

that sounds like a shock have you jacked it up to see if you had play in the bearing? and if it's bad you should be able to hear it roar. another thing is the rubber hose going to caliper may be colapsing inside. and where your say on where to put your hands it's better to do it both ways to see if indeed you have slop in bearing...good luck...

Would a shock problem be occasionally or all the time ? There is no noise per say like a "roar" I will get to it this weekend to try and figure out what is going on. Thx again !
