1997 Town Car Brake Problems

Hi All,

I am having problems with my front right brake. When I press the brake the car will tug lightly to the right and pulsate (feels like warped rotor). This pulsating is speed sensitive and very noticeable at speeds greater that 45 mph.

We had a big snow storm a couple of weeks ago and hit a big snow drift a little faster than I should of :) so I figured alignment was out. Had Pepboys to align it. Problem still continued.

Irritated that $70 didn't fix my problem went and had both rotors turned (had warped rotors in the past). Came by to pick them up and the machinist told me they were barely warped but went ahead and turned them. Put it back together and the problems still persisted. Went ahead and inspected the caliper and brake pads and nothing seems out of the ordinary.

It kept feeling like the alignment was out so took it back to Pepboys and told them my problems. They rotated the tires to see if that was the problem. Still persisted so they re-aligned it again. They said it was still perfect.

So I am out of ideas, I love my car and make sure all the fluids are topped off. Any ideas?

Try greaseing the caliper pins, and any contact points. Sure sounds like a caliper is hanging up.

The owners manual says not to worry about a slight pulsing on the brake pedal as that is normal and is caused by the anti-lock system. Pulling to the right...Hmmmm. Tomorrow I will take it apart and grease them. Thanks for the info and will post my results.

Sorry for not clarifying, the pulsating is not on the brake pedal. It's something to do with the brakes on the front right. The best description I can give is a warped rotor at 45mph then around 70mph the car simply shakes to dead lol.

Will post my results, thanks for the advice.

if greasing the pins and that don't help it could be one of the rubber lines colasping inside the hose and it's not letting all the pressure off good like the other side and this will warp your rotor and also make it pull to that side. if you replace it get both if you can so it's done right. good luck.
