Shifter cable

I have a 1989 Corsica. 2.8 automatic. The shifter cable isn't attached. I presume that it broke. How do I fix it? I'm having trouble finding this part--GM has discontinued it. Really need help---how to fix it and where I can find the cable, Joanne :runaround:
