2008 Reg. Cab SXT shocks suck!

Bought a new 08 Reg. cab SXT PU with 3.7, the shocks are horrible I guess or the tires or both, maybe springs? Test drove it with 32 miles on smooth road, now that I'm of course driving on other roads that have rough spots, not good!, is there a real good after market shock that I could put on? Like a softer ride, thanxs
