Okay here is the deal. went down the road today like 1 mile ran into the gas station came back out tried to start my car and nothing but cranking. let it sit like 2 minutes boom started right up. It had done it like three weeks ago but we have had lots of ice here and I thought that when it started to melt that I got some gas with water in it. Ran some heet no big deal ran fine till today Here is some additional info in the past 6 mos. It has had plugs, wires, fuel filter, new air cleaner. car has 85k on it and runs just fine besides the whole thing today

Can you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when you turn the key to "run" when this happens?
Has fuel pump ever been replaced?
Next time it happens (and it probably will) listen for fuel pump- or better yet - put a fuel pressure gage on it- see if your F/P is working.

The fuel pump is great place to start. Has about the right miles on it for that to start. Your going to have to figure a way out to hear it or as stated, actually see if it is working.

Yeah the fuel pump is working. I had someone power on the car when I was laying by the gas tank. I think that it might be the crank trigger. It died the other day then ran really rough for 20-25 seconds then just fine.

When it was running rough, did it put out black smoke from the exhaust?

My '95 Lumina did this some years back. Pull the cover off the fuse panel on the right side of the dash (you can see it when you open the passenger door.) Make sure all the fuses are tightly in place. If worse comes to worse, replace the fuse for the ignition circuit, which is what I did. Haven't had a problem since.
