New here and its not that I don't want to look thru all the pages but really don't have time. Here is the problem, 2001 Cavalier driving down the road and quits, when I stop, no bulb test or crank when you go to those positions on ign sw, second time this happens in two weeks. After first time, rang wires out from ignition sw to 50a fuse in engine compartment..all looked good...swapped ign sw and fuse, no help...messing with fuses in fuse cluster inside and resetting the instrument cluster fuse fixed problem, it had a little corrosion on it so thought it might be intermittent so changed it....worked well and just quit again...my question is could this problem be with the instrument cluster? I noticed in the one schematic that I found that the power/ground goes from the microprocessor in the cluster to the powertrain control module. Was wondering if anyone had this problem.

corroded and/or loose battery terminals will cause that problem... the car runs on electrical power from the alternator until there is a sudden electrical load (brake lights, rad. fan, etc), then the car dies because the alternator doesn't supply power in 'real-time', normally the battery would power the car for that 1/4 second, but with the battery connections bad, it just dies

Actually, I troubleshot the problem yesterday and found the problem. I figured that the problem had to be between the ignition switch and the power source....everything on the fuse box first two rows are powered when the car is in run and that was where my problem was....It ended up being a bad splice between the fuses and the ignition switch....go figure...
