I have noticed that prices have skyrocketed for this kit. Is it no longer in production? It used to be a $12-$15 dollars tops model. Is it no longer shipped in the US? Meanwhile xj220's have gone down significantly.
This is the 93 Supra btw

last time I checked the supra was $28 CAN, and the jag was $38. At my LHS. I always thought the supra was reasonably priced.

All things being even the dollar has been taken a beating against the yen for a while now. Fuel prices affect the prices of almost everything as well.
If your price references are just based on 'the bay' then, well, trends of kits I often shop seem up, though bargains do seen to be around.

The kit was priced 1500 yen when it first came out in 1993, and the exchange rate was around 110 JPY/USD, so the $12-15 price range reflects the old price. If you saw that kind of price recently, that must be an old inventory. Also, Tamiya used to pack their kits in North America (the box doesn't have any Japanese characters, and was printed in Canada), which also kept the retail price down. Now the JP MSRP is 2500 yen, and the rate is around 90 Y/$, so $26-30 is a reasonable price for the kit.
