Hello all hope someone can help.
I purchased a Grand Am GT 3.3 V6 1992 for my 3 month snowboarding holiday here in B.C Canada and a few annoying problems have started.
1. Oil pressure gauge goes from half way to off the scale
2. Oil level light comes on when it feels like it (oil level does not drop)
3. Service light comes on when it feels like it
4. Check gauges light comes on when it feels like it
5. When in park the engine surges but not in any other gear or neutral
Is there a common and simple fix for all of these problems and is it possible to download a workshop manual for free
Many Thanks Jez

-first get your GA scanned and tell us your codes, you don't need scanner for this (there should be a procedure somewhere how to jump your DLC (data link connector) in order to read your engine service flashes - compare it to the list of codes and tell us what you got.
- your oil pressure should increase with the throttle
- if your engine oil is very old it becomes thin and diluted with gasoline. That could force your oil light pressure to come on
- how many miles is on the engine? if you have a lot of miles, then engine mechanical problems can be blamed for your low oil pressure (camshaft, crankshaft bearings etc) or your oil pump pickup screen is dirty or oil pump is going bad. Or it could even be faulty oil pressure sensor or wires.
my suggestion: find some good engine flush to clean out the bad stuff from inside. I would then clean the oil pan and oil pump pickup screen after that) and start to use thicker oil like 10w40

Welcome to AF jez.stix !
As 3100 stated check it for trouble codes, its realy easy. Here is a link that covers your ODB I . N-Body Trouble Codes (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=525205)
As for the surging check for vacum leaks, especialy the intake bolts and in the air intake(including PCV).
I wouldnt recommend 10w40 in BC Canada, unless its knocking bad. :2cents:
