Hi again!
I wrote a thread earier about my tranny giving up, so now im looking for a new one...but my question is, does any TH700 tranny fit on my car? Its a Chevy 2500 4x4 -89.... If i put a th700(4L60) from say a chevy van, would it fit and hold or would it just give up becouse of the 4x4?
Thanks for all the help!

The output shaft is different for the 4wd. In order to convert a 2wd to 4wd, the tranny has to be disassembled so it makes sense to get a 4wd tranny from the beginning.
I would stay away from the early 700r4 from 82 to 86. Late 87 to 92 are pretty much the same. You should be able to find a 4wd tranny from a 88 to 92 4wd truck.
Another option is to R&R it yourself and have a local shop rebuild it. Yet another option is to order one online and install it yourself.

New question...more help
A friend has a th700r4 tranny from an chevy astro that had permanent 4x4, could it fit? Or is the output shaft different? He says that the gears are controlled by the T/V wire, same as mine, but that the only thing thats electonic about the tranny is the lock up and speedometer...could it fit?
Im a beginner to what it comes to trannys so i have no idea how many different types of trannys there are....wouldnt wanna buy every tranny thats for sale around here to see which will fit...
Sorry for all the questions but im a beginner....:)

That trans will fit your truck. The permanent 4x4 is the transfer case not the trans.
I assume you are using the transfer case from the truck?

Okey, thanks for the help!
Yeah, im planing to use the transfer case thats already in my truck, donŽt want rear wheel drive...and all the rebuilding...
Nothing left to do but to buy the tranny, and make the swap...any tips before the swapping? Any gaskets that i should buy and change when i have the tranny down?

I would use a torque converter designed for your truck. Stall speed needs to match your truck. I would recommend this as well https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/product.php?productid=92&cat=65&page=1
Again it is only a recommendation. Also what kind of shape is the tranny in from the 91 Astro? Does it need a rebuild?

The "new" tranny works, the oil is red and doesnt smell burnt, so im planing on swapping and running with the astro tranny while i rebuild the "orginal" tranny...and that shift kit looks good, little more powerful i guess...should be fun later on when im trying to rebuild the orginal tranny, better buy all the books about rebuilding if i can find any... :)
