Coolant Leak location

2000 Grand AM GT

My GF's car is leaking coolant. I notice it on the floor of the garage. If it's on the floor does that mean it's not an internal leak? Or could there be an internal leak also. How do you check the oil for coolant present? Thanks.

Need engine and mileage of the car. It is possible that it is leaking from the water pump. Or could be leaking from one of the intake gaskets. Take a look at the top of the engine and see if there is any antifreeze pooling on top of the engine. If it is internal you might get an exhaust that has white smoke.

Which side was the leak can about answer this... ??

Check the oil, if its milky looking or has a lot of white stuff on the dipstick then you could have an internal leak. Though sometimes if you drive short trips you can get excess moisture in your engine.

btw all GTs are V6.

56,000 miles and I think it's a 3.4 V6

The leak, I think, is almost under the resivoir. That side of the engine.

Possibly the water pump, though Id check the hoses on that side for cracks. If its the water pump you'd see signs on the bottom of the pump area, thiers a weap hole there.

Could just be the overflo on the resivoir too. Make sure the lid is tight.

Hope that helps!
