My 2004 GLS - 4Motion flipped the code: PO118 and I cleared it. Did it again ~ 4 miles later -I think the platform uses -2- of these sensors - one for the gauge, and one for the ECU, the second one believed to be the culprit. How serious is this - and exactly (picture) where is it - on the tranny side of the engine, down the radiator hose line - under the car???

The code your getting PO118 is the common vw coolant temp sensor. Unknown as to where yours is located on this vehicle. Most are on the drivers side by the MAF. Get part from dealer $27 or lower and get the diagram for install. Remember if you change the part yourself you will also need vw coolant for loss.
I would change out asap.

if its a 1.8t its on the back side of the engine, under the pcv hoses on a coolant flange. Its either a black or green 4-pin round connector
