*96 manual 1.0

here is the jist, it started this week. when i push in the clutch during idle at a stop light or where ever a clicking sound eminates from the firewall area. it sounds like someone is rapidly tapping on a window, but it seems like it is coming from the inside of the car. i read somewhere on this forum about the clutch bearing making this sound when going bad. the car shifts fine and runs good, however i did just replace the tranny fluid with some appropriately rated royal purple fluid. this did make a good improvement in shift quality i will say. any input would be much appriciated.

thanks,
ethan

It would more than likely be the clutch throwout/release bearing. When you press the clutch in, the bearing is forced against the fingers of the pressure plate, which causes it to spin.

It's a good habit to not sit at a light with the clutch depressed. This will wear it out quickly.

When you do replace it, you'll want to get a complete clutch kit, which will include the throwout bearing.
