1997 Transport, 3.4L, with 140k miles (2d Engine - less miles), was dying at stops and intersections, lots of hesitation, Service Engine Soon light on, replaced upstream o2 sensor with Borg-Warner cheapo one from Ebay, no change, decided to change fuel pressure regulator because had a similar problem on my Olds, and voila, problem solved. Paid $40 delivered from Rock Auto, fairly easy fix - JUST MAKE SURE YOU RELIEVE THE FUEL PRESSURE FIRST! I did not and when I pried the FPR off the rail---splash! Excellent illustration on how to perform the FPR replacement at http://greatautohelp.com/inspections/fuelregulator1.html. BTW, does anyone know the best way to relieve the FP?

This is from another site:

Question:

(To relieve the pressure)..Do I remove fuel pump fuse, start engine, fuel pressure is out of lines?

Answer:

Yes you can do that to relieve fuel pressure or you can purge the service port located at the injector rail on the engine - it has a black cap and looks like a tire pressure valve, put rags around the fitting to avoid fuel from going onto the engine and use a rag over the fitting while you depress the valve.
