Trans only works in first gear and Speedo dosnt Work

As the title says my Trans is being a cunt haha.

I just got my motor replaced and the trans wont shift for shit, neither is the Speedometer therefore its not counting miles either. I was told it's the speed Sensor. Here goes the story.

When I purchased the car off of my local Craigslist the add said it need a head gasket, So check the car and see how it runs, if it runs good ill get it cause i know someone who can replace it for me as long as i buy the needed parts. When he said it needed that work done i asked if he used that head gasket repair shit which makes matters worse, he lied to my face and said "no i didnt." He said "the only thing i did was have the valves resurfaced" ect. I purchased the car for 1200, he originally was asking 1600 i said that's not worth it due to it needing a head gasket, with it having a slip in third gear (He described it as a minor slip) but i took the car for a run and felt fine i didn't feel a slip,and the body needing a paint job. Anyway i purchased the gs and on the way home the head gasket decides its gonna blow up on me the first day i got it, the second it happened i got so pissed as id imagine you guys would too.

So the car sat there for about a week, till he could install the head gasket. When i took the car down to his house to have it installed we pushed it into the garage and he said hell take care of it tomorrow. He calls me the next day and it says RJ I'm like oh fuck what happened. I didn't wanna answer but i did. He said "I cant do this" i said dude why not? He said your motor is fucked. To make things a little shorter here are the pics. NONE of the work The guy described was done.

So i stated looking for a new motor about a month down the road i got a call from a guy with one for a good price. he even offered to install it, i said cool.
So i had it towed down to him he id all the work, and now that i have it back it doesn't shift it stays in First Gear, and my Speedometer doesn't work either.

Someone please help me out ASAP

yea man its your speed sensor. It could have been unattached or it may be broken but the speed sensor for sure should cure the trans problem (this I assume is an AT)

yes its an automatic. I shoulda stated that. Sorry about that.

Sometimes when the tranny gets installed, the speed sensor gets smashed when it's getting put into the engine bay. Id think the guy would have taken care of it before you got it back. I thought it could have been your TV cable because it wouldn't come out of 1st but you said the speedo didn't work so that's probably not it.
