Intermittent wiper problem

Forgive me if this has already been covered.
I own an 02 16v 1.2 Clio Elegante which I recently purchased.
The problem lies with the intermittent wipers for the front wind screen.
Basically none of the choice of settings on the stalk when in intermittent position work as they should.
The wipers appear to have a life of their own, either they never work intermittently or they will 'wipe' maybe once every 10 minutes no matter which position the delay is on.
When they do wipe on intermittent there is an audible clicking noise coming from somewhere near the passenger side of the dashboard, which I'm pretty confident sounds wrong.
From the limited research I have done, I'm under the impression it could be either a relay or fuse problem.
I would be most grateful if anyone could confirm this and suggest how I might go about rectifying the problem.
Thanks

hello,
the clicking on the passenger side dash is from your fuse box, it happens when you use the drivers side window aswell,
it might be worth removing the stalk and cleaning the contacts, or as you said, fuse problem.
sorry if i couldnt help anymore.
