engine losing power and revving high

I was driving down the road and stared losing power so i went to acelerate and the engine would rev but i would not go any faster. the transmision flued was low so i toped it off and that seemed to fix the problem but its back, and the transmion flued it full still so i dont knwo what is going on. I need help.
