help on park ave

i have a 97 park ave ultra.. im going to take out the tranny and i was wondering which is easier.
1. take out the tranny from the bottom of the car.
2. take out the tranny along with the motor through the top.

All the trans shops must think is is easier to remove it from the bottom (side). i have never seen anyone remove the engine to replace the tranny, unless they are replacing both!
