just found an early 90's ? white 5 door in decent shape and its motor is supposedly shot. not clear about the actual miles either. speculating, it has an automatic trans and i was wondering if the change to a manual trans is problematic. i don't mean adding a manual to the existing engine. i would get / build a new motor and trans ... and wonder about the mounts, computer, etc.. the fellow is asking $200.

Perhaps the "easiest" changeover is where you have a complete "doner" car which is the same - perhaps that car is riddled with rust but the engine/trans is fine or rear collision damage.

I really like the Metros, but I doubt I'd go through the effort/time/expense of switching an automatic over to a manual - there are just too many driveable Metros out there for low money - although i suppose price depends on your location.

Many of the manual transmissions in the Metros have synchro problems - so unless you can drive the manual transmission or know for a fact that it is extremely low mileage (like JDM stuff) - chances are that it is already toast.
