Need an advice about M3

Hi, I'm from Italy and I'm new here.
Here's my question.
I found a 1999 bmw M3 for sale, they ask 25000 Euros (about 25,000 $).
I'm quite young, so my budget is limited, nothing over 25000.
Now I'd like to know everything about the costs to maintain an M3 (here in Italy one litre of gasoline is more than 1 Euro...). Does she drink like a drunk?
Are parts and checks so expensive? Insurance, ecc...?
Is it a risk to buy a 4 or 5 years old M3? Is the engine strong and long-life? I can't think about keeping it for 2 years and then resell it!
I know, it's a difficult dream to realize, but the M3 is in my heart since I was a child.
The alternative would be a 2001 Audi S3 (1800 turbo 210 CV) for the same price: good car but obviously my right foot wouldn't be completely satisfied.
Please tell me!! Thank you, have a nice week!

The problem with those cars is that the engines have been abused, if you are thinking of buying this car and you are worried about money, do not buy it. You'll be really dissappointed. Yes they do guzzle gas, it has a high performance motor. Yes, parts are very expensive, especially in Italy.
I'm live in the US and I always wanted to get an Alfa Romeo, but the parts are so expensive here, I guess we have similar problems.

You're right, I understand.
Anyway, I think that a 1999 M3 here in Italy is quite different from a 1999 M3 in the US.
I read that those cars have 240 hp....well, here in Italy stock M3s from 1996 to 2000 have 321 hp!!
The new one has 343 hp.
25000 Euros for a 321 hp bomb....temptation....
Other comments or advices please!!
