Carb Rejetting

Ok so I googled what this is, but does anyone know about how much it would cost on a 1992 FZR600? Is it something I could do by myself or would it be better to get a mechanic to do it?

This is the bike I'm considering purchasing (Yay for tax returns) and was wondering what you guys thought about the bike. I'm thinking about offering 1k since he has dropped the price, 4 times now in the last week and a half, it started at 2k so he's antsy to get rid of it.

Jet kits don't cost too much. About 5 years ago I am pretty sure I paid about $75 for a rejetting kit for my XJ600S (aka Seca II). My dad and I tore the carbs apart and did it ourselves. It wasn't too hard, but I was glad to have my dad to help me since I had never done it before. If you're technically inclined, you can probably do it yourself.

At the mileage it has, before re-jetting I would inspect each individual spark plug, as it may just need resyncing, not rejetting . I would do both a compression test as well as plug inspection to be sure you don't have other issues causing it to run rich.

Since it has a pipe and other mods, it may indeed need rejetting. Don't forget that after rejetting, you'll also need to re-syncronize the carbs as well to ensure all 4 cylinders are running even.

Now the advertisement is gone, but my question would be: Unless the ad said "Needs rejetting" why would re-jetting be a concern when buying a bike?
