Axel shaft

Hi:

Just wondering if any of you know a ball park price for changing the passenger side front axel on an 02 grand prix (in a shop). I have a bad boot. Deciding if I should tackle it myself or bring it in. Also, have any of you had a mystery coolant leak. I can smell it, but can't see it anywhere. I'm thinking head or manifold maybe. 72,000 miles.

axels are easy to replace on you own. It shouldn't take more than a couple hours. Check the tipps and maintenance subforum for a step by step guide.

The coolant leak sounds like a bad lower intake gasket. What motor is in it? If its the 3100, take a look under the throttle body and under the power steering pump. If its the 3800, check near the fuel injectors and valve covers.
