60k tune up

ok so theres a list of the parts to be changed on 3si, so i know what needs to be done, but 60k is coming up and i'm pretty low on cash. How much have you guys paid for the 60k job? i'm really not sure what it should run. . . thanks

Does ALL of this really need to be replaced?

That list looks pretty conclusive. Timing belt, water pump, tensioner, tensioner pully, and idler pully are the most important things to do. If one of those go you'll be looking for a new motor. Gaskets, if they aint broke dont fix'em. The other belts are pretty cheap, so you might as well do them while you're in there. Plugs, wires, filters...use your judgement. If they're due for replacement you probably should.

If you do the work yourself you can get the parts for $300 or so. If you're planing on having it done at a shop, plan on $1K-$2K depending on where you take it. But, for the record, it's not a job i'd trust to just any corner garage.

It's really not that hard to do. There's plenty of write-ups on the web.

The man thing that needs to be done when doing the 60k is your Tbelt and tentioner. When your in there its better to do your water pump cause if it fails you will have to take out the Tbelt anyways to fix it. Same with the Idler pulleys.
There are 2 ways I can think of for you to do it for less.
1. you can skip the Plugs, wires, TB gasket, Intake Gasket and even your other drive belts. I would keep the Water pump Tbelt Tentioner and Idlers for sure.
2. you can go with aftermarket parts. I wouldn't just go with the cheepest brand you can find... but I have had a lot of luck with some aftermarket stuff. I also sell a 60K kit for $280 if you are interested.

All the basic stuff.. Tbelt and Tentioner, Idlers, Water pump and gasket,2 Drive belts, and I will even through in some NGK copper plugs for free.

Just as a reference for people curious as to what a 3000gt specialty shop would charge for a 60K tuneup. WIth parts and Labor it is $850 with all stock OEM parts.

When doing a 60k always replace the water pump, t-belt, tenioner pulley, idler pulley and hydaulic tensioner.
All of those parts are potential problems if any of them break. And they all get replaced at the same time to avoid additional work down the line if one part breaks.
Someone mentioned that you will be looking for an engine if one of those break. That's just not true. You will probably need to replace some valves in your heads is all. not cheap, but not an entire motor.
The other parts, spark plugs, certain gaskets, belts, etc. are all parts that can be replaced at different times and when needed.

Another thing people forget is the front crank seal. WOuldnt hurt to replace the cam seals too.

Both cheap and both easy to get to with the timing stuff out of the way.

Make sure you do the idler tensioner and pulleys. My car is sitting right now because I neglected to make sure those were done when I had my t-belt replaced 8 months ago and one of those parts failed. It'll be a few weeks before I know if there is any significant damage because of it.

pretty sure you have to remove the cam gears to replace the cam seals. yes its easy to the skilled mechanic, but not something i would just do b/c i'm in there.
