Sometimes the speedometer sticks and won't change for a couple of days. It does get back to normal after a while though. Any ideas?

need to put what make and model it is and maybe engine size would be good to because we don't know rear wheel or front wheel drive. my mistake i see cavlier. but maybe plastic gear going into tranny or cable is getting ready to brake..

my bad. 2003 cavalier. 2.2l ecotec 14inch rims i dunno about the tire side walls or the treads if those even matter. It's a front wheel drive btw. This could also be an unrelated issue but every now and then it chokes to start. Like, I turn the key and it doesn't catch, so I have to do it again.

The speedometer on that vehicle is completely electrical. The VSS reports the axle shaft speed to the PCM, the PCM scales the signal, and the speedometer displays it.

So then it's something wrong with the speedometer itself? It get's stuck at a speed and uses that speed as 0. Like if it gets stuck at 10 I have to subtract 10 from the speed at which it says to get my actual speed.

Get yourself a new cluster bud. I've seen it a few times now with these cars. The clusters for some reason just shit the bed.

Hey thanks man, what does it actually do? And I think it could've been just crapping out because it's been cold as fuck here in Nebraska. I never have a problem when it's warm.
