What kind of engine is this?

I went to the local pick and pull hoping to find a low mileage engine to replace what I have. Low on money, otherwise I'd probably buy a rebuilt. I can also see myself just rebuilding mine, but the cost to do it is similar to the rebuilt option. Before someone chimes in about JDM, consider that hear in Canada, with the dollar the way it is, and the cost of the shipping, JDM's are not as economical a choice. I looked around and can't find anything that will cost less than $800 :cwm27: I didn't find anything at the yard with less than 200 000km. I'm not going to pay $200 for something so old and then spend all that time installing it with no guarantee that it will work.

I came upon an old Suzuki Swift. I think it was an 89. The speedo read only 160 000 km (99 420 miles). Seems impossible at that age and how worn out the interior was. Can somebody tell me more about this engine?

Don't know anything about them, but I think you might be able to find out more over at teamswift:

MK1/2/3 1.3 GT/GT-i DOHC (http://teamswift.net/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=a46e217eb1fea7cf90bbd187561598dc) For all the stock & modified twincam 1298cc Suzuki Swift GT/GTi engine equipped cars.

That appears to be the NA 1.3L 4 cylinder that was offered in later Metros

Aren't the 4 cylinder engines used in the Metro SOHC, not DOHC?

I'm still learning about the differences, but yeah I'd have to agree. I have only heard of DOHC in Swift's which is where this engine lives. As far as I know, all 4 cyl metros are SOHC.

I wonder if this engine would fit in a MKIII metro, like mine. I would like one of my metros to have more power.

That's a G13B from a Swift GTI. 100 hp on the same block as any four cylinder Metro/Swift. It will bolt right into your car but you're going to need the transmission, axles, wiring and computer.

Where in Canada are you? Are you looking for a 1.0 or a 1.3, and if so, what year?

it will bolt to the metro tranny but its not quite as strong, you would need the exhaust, shifter, motor/tranny mounts, axles and wiring from computer to engine and the computer. the block is same but it has much stronger internals than the metro 4 cyl engine. all the other parts off the car with the exception of the hood, headlights and front bumper will bolt on to your car if you want to spruce it up a little (89-94)

Thanks for the input. I thought it may be a big job, but at least it's a great project. I'm putting it on the back burner for when I have time.

To answer the other question, Where in Canada are you? Are you looking for a 1.0 or a 1.3, and if so, what year? I am in Edmonton. I am currently in the market for a 1.0 litre engine. My first choice is to buy this engine for my 96. Having said that, I would take one for the 95 instead if that were my only option.

Ideally, I want the 96 to have a stock 1.0 litre and the 95 to have the DOHC G13 or G14 engine. Can you say ice racer?! I am going to learn how to weld, and make a roll cage for the 95 and enter the ice racing league! Why not, the car has been through so much already.

That's a better choice as the 96 is OBDII and you'll never get that to work with this engine. The 95 is OBDI with the same emissions requirements. Never heard of a G14. There's a G15, but not in North America. A nice combination is the DOHC head you're looking at on a G16 block, a side benefit is that the G16 transmission is sturdier.
