98 Exp. Trans slipping

My buddy has an 98 Explorer and is having some issues with the trans. It will slip in 2nd and 3rd gear and sometimes the OD light will come on by it's self. I remember I had a 91 Ranger that kinda had this problem but it was a vacume line that broke. Are these the same or is it something else.

You should find a shop that can access the trouble codes from the transmission computer to see what the cause of the OD light coming on is. Chances are pretty good that will get him pointed in the right direction. His transmission is probably mostly electronically controlled so it won't be as simple as a vacuum leak.
