I was reading on this thread that the 3000GT SL hp was overated. it states that it's 222hp but they say it's really 205hp it's a 1991 3000GT SL 5-Spd, with a Japan engine in it.

205 is closer to the actual horsepower.
If it really was 222 it would have around 185whp stock. It barely gets to 185whp with a good amount of bolt ons. As it is they dyno around 170whp 100%stock

I know what HP means horse power, and i'm no dummy but what does whp, wheel horse power. Whats the diffrence between whp and hp. and why would they overate it that much

whp = wheel horse power yes.
They would overrate it to sell cars.
The SOHC is underrated. Several people have dynoed 100% stock SOHCs at 150whp. That puts the SOHC at closer to 185hp at the crank.
Had they rated them at the proiper levels the DOHC wouldn't have been as appealing for the cost difference.

So then the VR-4/TT doesn't make 320 or 300 but about 275 or 285 right

No the twin turbo rating is correct.
Its just the DOHC NA that is overrated.

That was probably my post you just read that on recently. The difference between whp (wheel horsepower) and hp also known as bhp (base horsepower) is that hp or bhp is how much power your car has at the crankshaft. This is going to be higher because it is measured directly at the source of where the power is being made with nothing putting resistance on it. WHP is going to be less than bhp/hp because it is the power being measured at the wheels, which has gone through your drivetrain (transmission, t-case, diff, etc) and has lossed some power between the motor and the wheels.

It can be used either way. In Jeremy Clarkson's case I suppose it would be.

^ I know I've heard that phrase before, but Clarkson just loves spouting out "bhp this bhp that". Kinda just gets stuck associated with him.
