2005 Pilot key does not work

My son's 2005 Pilot. 45,000 miles.

A tiny light on the key body stopped coming on. All buttons stopped working: they do not lock/unlock locks. Do not turn alarm on or off.

The second key works as usual.

We thought that the battery in the key was bad. The owner manual says do not open the key since it does not contain battery!!! That is a puzzle. What makes the light in the key to come on if it does not contain battery?

Do they just want to support dealer with our money?

Does anybody have any thoughts or experience on this matter?

That what I say too. I was going to do that but now I am in a process of moving and have to put it off for a while.

I will let you guys know what we found there.

quick google search:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_open_a_2005_honda_pilot_key_to_change_t he_battery

if the link doesn't work:

I think its in the manual, but basically, you need a small phillips head screw driver, remove the one screw from the back. Then you can pop the two halves of the casing apart. Then, insidde, there is a seperate encased unit (the piece that has the lock/unlock/panic buttons on it). That will just fall out if you turn it upside down. You need to pop those halves apart as well. There are tabs at each end that you can seperate slightly then it should pop apart. The battery is in there. I think its a CR1616 watch type battery, but it should be imprinted on the battery itself.

That was just another Honda parts gimmick!
My son went to the parts counter and asked for a battery. Paid 12 dollars and all was fixed.
He probably could have paid somewhere around 4 dollars at other place, but that what happens when you do not have time and have money...

Problem fixed!

o-my so it's confirmed that the owner's manual was wrong?!?!

thanks for confirming it for future searches:licka:

can you also confirm the battery as CR1616 ? quick google search ranges the price for this battery to be $2-4
