I'm purchasing my sister's 2000 3.8 Firebird and I'd like to see if anyone has insight as to common problems and failures on these cars. I'm very familiar with the 3.8 (NA and Supercharged) so I'm not worried about engine issues but don't know much about F-body suspension, drivetrain, etc.
Anyone in the know and willing to share?

My daughter had a 1998 Firebird w/ 3.8 L . She had a major problem with the engine 3 days after she bought it ( was a used car ) but the dealer stepped up and made it right ! I know from experience that the 3.8 is a great engine and the problem wasn't indication of any inherent fault with the engine or car . Otherwise I can't fault the car in any way but we have to remember ever car is an entity in to itself and any problem is possible with any car . Even Mercedes and Rolls Royce's have problems from time to time . The only difference is they tend to hide the problems from the public so their reputations aren't tarnished . Good luck !

The 2000 is a much better car than the 98, why because a lot of the remaing kinks that previous years had got fixed. Mine is a 2000 v6 and I haven't had anything major happened to(nocking on wood while typing this).ive only fixed the thing that are bound to break, clutch, coil packs and module, alternator three times but because im running amps for my sound sys. and belt tensioner, thats it. 190000 mi and maybe another 20000 or even 30000 more. Oh, and it still handles long distance trips.
