I have an 03' grand am gt and i was wondering how i check the tranny fluid? Or should i just have the mechanic check it when i get my oil changed at the shop? Thanks

From personal experience it's probably best to have the mechanic check it when you have your oil changed. I have a '03 SE and the cap to it is in a very tricky place. Almost impossible to fit your hand in where the cap is (red in color)

how long has it been since you changed filter and tranny fluid? if it's been longer than twenty to thirty thousand i'd have it changed from some a place you can trust. have them show you how to check it yourself first and see if they go right too the dipstick if they don't bad sign...good luck...

the 99+ grand ams do not have a dip stick to check the trans fluid. The rad cap is where its added .

Thier is a check plug on the pass side of the trans. If it drips out its full, if not its low. The car does need to be level and warmed up fully to accuratly check.

See this link (http://www.quality-trans.com/faq/faq8.html#41) shows the location of the plug.
