2001 chevy silverado 4x4 4.3 liter standard transmission

So where do I start. Driving down the hi-way and the truck felt like it lost its power. While in fourth gear it did not want to accelerate past 2000 rpm. I pulled over to check any codes. P0101 & P0300. Cleared the codes and went on my way. Truck drove normal...for awhile. About 45 min of driving started to happen again. So I limped back to the nearest town. Replaced my MAF (PO101) as directed by my mechanic over the phone. $230 later did not fix the problem. If anything it seemed to get worse. Unplugged my MAF as directed and limped home. While driving home the truck started surging and smelled like exhaust ( gas like smell but not quite ). As well my oil pressure started fluctuating low to normal. My oil was darker, not black, but much darker by the the time i got home. The oil level did not change. Last but not least, by the time I got close to home the acceleration was gone in third gear and then second. Before, I had somewhat normal accel. in the lower gears then not. The problem started about 1 mile after I filled up. Sounds like a coincidence to me though. I know that's a lot but any suggestions would help!!! Took the truck to my mechanic and I need a new fuel distributor (spider). Apparently it was pissing fuel. Does this jive with what the symptoms I stated and if so how easy is this fix. I just got the truck out of the shop for the "GM intake gasket" fix in December. Could these be related? I have kept up with all my regular maintenance. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor and such. I appreciated all your input. so I changed my fuel distributor (spider) on the weekend. same problem. smells like gas and won't accelerate normally. the surging is gone but I'm am still getting a random misfire(P0300). Any ideas on what would create the gas smell.

Most likely your evap system isn't working right to make the gas smell, what is your fuel pressure? KOEO and running down the road under load if you can.

the oil is darker because you have unburnt fuel and contaminates in it. whenever the fuel is not completely burnrd it ends up in the oil, and as long as this was going on while you where driving it sounds like there is alot in the oil. I would change the oil, its not the problem only a side affect.

I changed my oil as soon as the spider was replaced. Thinking that the problem was fixed. But still running like crap.

the "spider" is the metering body including injectors...are you sure that is what was replaced? If so the part alone would be a few hundred bucks. Usually if they are bleeding fuel into the oil and leaking off pressure all they need is a 50 dollar regulator put on the back of em.

If they only replaced the regulator maybe the metering assembly has a crack or the injectors are messed up....

Or maybe it isn't related to the fuel spider at all....

I changed the spider myself. My buddy is a parts guy so I can get some good deals. It was still a couple hundred of bucks. Just changed my plugs to be sure. Even cylinders had carbon build up, Odd cylinders were whitish (hot). Still didn't help. Tomorrow I'm going to crack the cat flange to help it breathe. One more thing to try an eliminate. And going to check fuel pressure as well.

Be sure to check if the fuel pressure drops after the engine is turned off. Pressure should hold. If it drops real fast, the regulator may be bad.

update!!! took my 4 O2 sensors off my two cats. truck finaly run normal. Loud but normal. Must of clogged them up while dumping raw fuel. At least I know what the problem is. I hope.
